Field notes
Granqvist’s productive and meticulous fieldwork resulted in over 10 000 pages of field notes, both drafts and fully written copies. Granqvist gathered information on the life cycle events for her books on Artas. In addition to these, she also took notes on various other topics, such as the history of Artas, notions on seasons, and the living conditions for women.
Most of the field notes consists of transcribed interviews that Granqvist conducted with her neighbours in Artas, and with the informants Alya and Hamdiya. Granqvist’s collaborator Louise Baldensperger wrote down in the local Arabic dialect what Alya and Hamdiya were discussing in the interviews, and Granqvist later translated this into German, or sometimes English.
The field notes are grouped on the website according to Granqvist’s published books on Artas, and follows the chapter sequence of these books. In addition, there are notes that were never used in a printed publication. These are here otherwise unsorted but organized in specific themes.
The field notes are stored at the archive of the Palestine Exploration Fund in London.
