Photographs
Granqvist was an avid photographer during her years in Palestine. She took over 1 000 photos from Artas and during trips around Palestine and Egypt, with the purpose of using them as ethnographic research material as well as illustrations in travel journals from Palestine.
Granqvist commenced cataloguing the photos, grouping them according to themes and naming each photo according to a number and letter system. She gave many of the photos a provisional caption or wrote a comment on the reverse side, with the idea of arranging them in a publication.
The around 1 200 photos displayed in Photographs are organized according to Granqvist’s own system. In addition, the many unsorted photos have been placed in newly created photo albums. The reverse side of the photo are included in the digitized image, and when they appear, the captions are visible as well, along with the contemporary expressions and spellings mistakes. The images are searchable by clicking on Topics, Persons and Places for each album. For archival purposes, the photos are digitized alongside a colour chart, but this can be edited when publishing the photo.
The photographs are stored at the archive of the Palestine Exploration Fund in London.
